Driving sustainable industry with science-based targets

At the end of 2021 we made an important commitment that will shape our sustainability efforts for years to come. We have pledged to reduce our global carbon footprint meaningfully, measurably, and in a way that reflects the urgency of the climate crisis and in 2023 we had our targets validated.
By signing up to emissions reduction and net zero journeys under the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi), we are committing to setting ambitious targets in line with what climate science tells us is necessary – and to being held accountable. We are doing this because we are in a unique position to influence global industry and make a difference, but also because it simply is the right thing to do.
We confirmed our science-based targets in July 2023:
50.4%
reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2032
25%
suppliers with science-based targets by 2027
70%
customers with science-based targets by 2027

Why science-based targets?
Science-based targets are emission reduction and net zero targets that are in line with what climate scientists agree is necessary to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement and avoid climate catastrophe:
- limit global warming to well below 2°C above pre-industrial levels
- pursue efforts to limit warming to 1.5°C
They show how much and how quickly individual organisations need to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions to prevent the worst effects of climate change.
