Norican Group is searching for a Applications Technology Specialist who will be part of the Burlington or LaGrange Wheelabrator team.

Norican Group currently requires one individual to fill the position of Applications Technology Specialist on a permanent full-time basis.  This new opening will be an addition to the current team and will report into Burlington, Ontario Canada.

The Applications Technology Specialist supports Norican’s Factory Sales Representative during the complete lifecycle of a proposal process in either EMP or OEM projects.  This assistance may include, but is not limited to: identifying correct surface preparation technology, estimating engineering and manufacturing times and associated budgets, identifying electrical hardware and software requirements, specifying the correct hardware configuration and detailing software functionality requirements. This position will have ultimate responsibility to coordinate all aspects of the proposal deliverables.  Beyond the proposal component the individual will be responsible to answer questions from Customers, Sales Representatives and the Projects Department when necessary. 

 JOB SUMMARY

Acquire the Order

  1. Provide commercial and technical assistance where necessary to customers, Norican Group factory representatives and projects group

Proposal

  1. Review RFQ’s for content and co-ordinate with the sales team
  2. Prioritize and schedule sales pre-qualifications and proposal timelines
  3. Review and analyze customers’ specifications and expectations prior to issuing the proposal
  4. Evaluate documentation requirements
  5. Review, evaluate and document technology and installation constraints
  6. Document the testing and acceptance criteria
  7. Discuss commercial strategies, Demo Lab testing and product development with the sales team to incorporate strategies into the proposal document
  8. Identify system software and hardware requirements through departmental consultation
  9. Prepare the equipment concept for the purpose of quoting in 2D or 3D
  10. Liaise with engineering on drawing models for concept
  11. Develop cost effective working systems  
  12. Source suitable vendors, initiate RFQ as required
  13.  Prepare estimate sheets and proposal documents
  14. Attend “Application Review Meeting” 
  15. Maintain proposal logs and files
  16. Develop and implement standard proposals
  17. Meet scheduled deadlines

Demo Lab/Customer Application Lab

  1. Work with sales and the customers on product demonstrations when necessary
  2. Attend Shop Testing of equipment, where possible – especially equipment identified as to your primary or secondary responsibility

Approvals                      

  1. Complete approval process including corporate “Risk Analysis” and “Cash Flow” documents for management approval, when necessary

Execute the Order

  1. Ensure adequate information and technology transfer between sales and project management
  2. Prepare the Sales Package for internal use upon receipt of Purchase Order
  3. Attend the “Project Planning Meeting/Project Launch” Meeting

Other Duties

  1. Other duties as may be assigned

SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Degree or certificate in Electrical or Mechanical or Electro-Mechanical Design Engineering
  • A self starter with hands-on electrical/mechanical/PLC experience
  • Minimum of 5-7 years related industrial experience would be considered an asset
  • Proficiency in AX, Bluestar and Merlin is a must
  • Strong PC aptitude and skills with Microsoft products:  Office and MS Project
  • AutoCAD and SolidWorks experience is essential
  • Out-going individual with excellent communication skills
  • Ability to travel 5 – 20% of time cross borders
  • Excellent analytical and communications skills and able to work in a fast-paced, team environment
  • Strong team player who presents a polished and professional manner
